How I ended up at Falandos AI.
I studied HR. Spent four years as a recruiter at an IT consultancy. I didn't build software — I just talked about it. For two years I tried to get a personal project off the ground: three restarts, three failures. Then, over a few weeks, AI turned a corner. What consultants once quoted at ~€20,000 and nine months, I built in six days — solo, no team. Falandos AI exists because I lived that shift and knew I could repeat it for others.
Where it started
Two years ago it started with a conversation with a friend about a service for specific communities in the Netherlands. The idea grew: a platform connecting people in the Netherlands to professionals who speak their native language — Arabic, Turkish, Polish, Chinese. A problem I'd seen myself. Family without fluent Dutch relying on their children to translate at doctor's appointments or tax meetings. I wanted to build it. Three attempts, three failures. First attempt in ChatGPT 3.5: copy-paste spaghetti, no backend, gave up after weeks. Second WordPress + plugins: compromise after compromise, custom PHP needed, stuck. Third I hired an external developer for 'two months' — became nine. Functional, but not what I'd had in mind and without the flexibility to integrate AI later. Briefly online, then quietly shelved.
What I learned
- A vision is not the same as a product. My three failures didn't cost me technical knowledge — they cost me compromises on what I actually wanted.
- Outsourcing is expensive in money and expensive in translation. Nine months later the product is missing exactly the feel you had in your head.
- AI crossed a threshold in 2025. ChatGPT 3.5 was a toy; Claude Code in Cursor is a teammate that ships senior-dev work — if you know what you want.
- The bottleneck isn't code anymore. It's product vision, scope discipline, and the ability to brief clearly.
- Dutch SMEs still don't see AI as something they can use tomorrow. That gap — between what AI can already do and what business owners dare to ask — is exactly where Falandos AI sits.
What I built
- A full SaaS in six days: React + MySQL backend, AI semantic search, fifteen languages (including Arabic, Turkish, Chinese, Polish), interactive maps, provider and admin dashboards, authentication, email flows, verification. All written in code — no WordPress, no page-builder, no template.
- Two years ago consultants quoted ~€20,000 and several months for something similar. I built it myself in six days, with AI as the only team. A mid-level dev would need three to four months; a senior full-stack six to eight weeks.
- This site — Falandos AI — was built the exact same way: from scratch in code, in a handful of days. Hero with live shader graphics, cinematic scroll animation, multilingual content pipeline, premium motion. No WordPress, no AI page-builder, no template.
